{"id":66,"date":"2014-09-02T20:41:43","date_gmt":"2014-09-02T20:41:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saveoursandwellcanadageese.org.uk\/?page_id=66"},"modified":"2019-01-01T20:52:36","modified_gmt":"2019-01-01T20:52:36","slug":"taking-action","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/saveoursandwellcanadageese.org.uk\/?page_id=66","title":{"rendered":"TAKING ACTION!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #00ff00; font-size: 14pt;\">It only takes one person to make a decision, but many to bring about changing it.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/saveoursandwellcanadageese.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/S1060006.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-261\" src=\"http:\/\/saveoursandwellcanadageese.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/S1060006.jpg\" alt=\"S1060006\" width=\"568\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saveoursandwellcanadageese.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/S1060006.jpg 3968w, https:\/\/saveoursandwellcanadageese.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/S1060006-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/saveoursandwellcanadageese.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/S1060006-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 568px) 100vw, 568px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of aims about this campaign for changing Sandwell council&#8217;s rationale behind culling healthy wildlife.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">To seek scrutiny of\u00a0Sandwell Council\u2019s \u00a0decision to kill Canada geese on these parks- where currently there\u00a0appears to be\u00a0only biased uninformed opinions of certain council officers with vested personal interests.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">To challenge the misconceptions promoted about the bird by this council and others, and to promote education to the public about goose behaviour.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">To campaign\u00a0and lobby\u00a0Sandwell council to never again allow\u00a0a final solution such as\u00a0culling of healthy geese to take place in the borough.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This can be achieved through sustained public pressure on those making the decisions, or applying greater scrutiny on an issue which is painfully obvious had none at all. We\u00a0started the campaign by\u00a0\u00a0setting up two separate petitions. The first petition\u00a0was presented to Sandwell council, in line with their 2014-2015 petition scheme- this is the council&#8217;s own rule whereby 1500 signatures\u00a0can ensure\u00a0that an issue is brought before a scrutiny committee. The petition\u00a0 called on a senior officer to <a title=\"scrutiny\" href=\"http:\/\/saveoursandwellcanadageese.org.uk\/?p=429\" target=\"_blank\">give evidence before this committee<\/a>. This was of course our aim.
